Decide who will handle the child and who will control the luggage before choosing how to cross Paris. A route that looks direct on a map can become awkward when the same adult must fold a pushchair, watch a child and move several bags. Treat festive sightseeing, gift storage and the airport return as connected parts of the same plan.

Choose the load before the route

List what must remain accessible during the journey: child equipment, food, medication, travel documents and a change of clothes. Everything else should be packed so that it does not need to be opened on a platform, pavement or terminal concourse. If an item cannot be carried while keeping a hand free for the child, it belongs in the main luggage rather than a loose shopping bag.

Compare today’s choices by handling effort rather than novelty:

Option Best fit Main point to verify
Public transport Adults can carry the full load through every transfer The route remains manageable with the pushchair and bags
Taxi or pre-arranged car Door-to-door movement matters more than carrying flexibility Passenger capacity, luggage space and required child equipment
Split journey Shopping or sightseeing adds more items during the day The storage location is confirmed before departure

A car is not automatically the simplest choice. Confirm the child-restraint arrangement and luggage capacity directly with the relevant provider. Do not infer either from a vehicle category or a photograph.

Make the pickup point child-proof

A useful meeting point is a specific public landmark where the family can wait without blocking a doorway or separating from the bags. Share the venue name, entrance, floor or concourse, and the landmark visible from the waiting position. A dropped map pin alone can place different people on opposite sides of a large building.

Choose a fallback in the same area in case an entrance is closed or crowded. Save the instructions as text and a screenshot so that the plan does not depend on a live connection. The adult meeting the driver or relative should remain with the child; another adult can check nearby exits only if the group can do so without abandoning luggage.

At an airport, use the traveler’s actual arrival information when agreeing the location. At a hotel or apartment, specify whether the meeting point is the reception area, the street entrance or another publicly accessible place. “Outside” is too vague when several doors face different streets.

Keep gifts separate from travel essentials

Christmas purchases change the return journey because they add fragile shapes and loose packages that were absent on arrival. Consolidate shopping before the airport day. Keep receipts and delicate items together, but place passports, medication and child supplies in a separate bag that never enters temporary storage.

Ask the accommodation directly whether it accepts delivered parcels or holds luggage, and under what conditions. Do not leave this decision until checkout. If storage is unavailable, choose purchases that fit inside the luggage already under the family’s control rather than creating a collection of separate bags.

Treat a vehicle as transport, not as gift storage. Plan a secure handoff at the accommodation or another confirmed facility instead of leaving presents in a parked car. Remove decorative wrapping before flying if it prevents inspection or makes repacking difficult, and check the carrier’s current baggage rules for bulky or fragile items.

Build the airport return backwards

Start with the point where the family needs to arrive, then work backwards through loading, meeting and departure from the accommodation. The collection point must allow everyone to identify the correct vehicle or companion without sending an adult away from the child and luggage.

Pack the evening before departure and reserve an accessible space for last-use child equipment. Keep coats, travel documents and essential supplies outside checked luggage. If the pushchair must be folded during the transfer, practise the sequence before leaving rather than discovering it beside a waiting vehicle.

Share the return plan with every adult in the group: who keeps the documents, who supervises the child, who checks the room and who confirms that every bag has been loaded. These roles can change, but they should not be decided while the group is moving.

Airport arrival checklist: verify the current flight and terminal details, confirm the exact meeting landmark and fallback, check child equipment and luggage capacity with the provider, keep documents and essential supplies accessible, and review the route in the ONNN journey planner.
